Loves a Collage

Today I’m sleepy before noon and luckily I can take a nap. A nap will be had. I am on a bit a reading kick and just started the second book in a series of 5…6 books? When you find a series you like it is truly the gift that keeps on giving. I have had one of the most tiring weeks I’ve had in a long time, juggling quite a bit, but I can catch my breath a bit today. I have somehow managed to still make it to birthday parties, to have quality time with friends, and even a night out. But today I will be in bed by nine o’clock, curled up with my book, and I’m already looking forward to it.

grounding me in my entirety

making me remember something the earth knows and just lets me borrow

and on days like this, I wear red, even if it’s three layers deep

because I know that’s a piece of the puzzle

New Moon

I haven’t taken proper outfit photos in a long time. It felt so fun to play dress up and snap these. I have been so immersed in my YouTube world, photo has taken a backseat. Even my Street Style Strolls have been few and far between. I had physical therapy today, my second session at a new place. I really like my PT girl and she gave me a show recommendation today about a bunch of gay pirates??! I am gearing up for grad school which will begin in just over a month. I’ve been trying to coordinate a time to meet with my advisor in-person to sort through any of my enrollment and financial aid questions. I’m hoping I can meet with her today. The kids I babysit for are in the process of applying to private schools for next year so this week has been a bit different than most. Also, Liv and I have been receiving a lot of mystery packages this week and then they reappear wrapped under the ‘tree.’ Liv wrapped my giant monstera plant in Christmas lights yesterday. I thought I bought some silver wrapping paper but this morning I discovered it is clear while trying to wrap the most recent package arrival. I’ve got to remember to grab a new roll on my way home.

Faz muito tempo que não tiro fotos de roupas adequadas. Foi tão divertido brincar de vestir e tirar isso. Estive tão imerso no meu mundo do YouTube que as fotos ficaram em segundo plano. Até meus passeios de estilo de rua têm sido poucos e raros. Fiz fisioterapia hoje, minha segunda sessão em um local novo. Eu gosto muito da minha PT e ela me deu uma recomendação de programa hoje sobre um bando de piratas gays??! Estou me preparando para a pós-graduação, que começará em pouco mais de um mês. Tenho tentado marcar um horário para me encontrar pessoalmente com meu orientador para resolver qualquer uma das minhas dúvidas sobre inscrição e ajuda financeira. Espero poder me encontrar com ela hoje. As crianças de quem sou babá estão em processo de inscrição em escolas particulares para o próximo ano, então esta semana foi um pouco diferente da maioria. Além disso, Liv e eu temos recebido muitos pacotes misteriosos esta semana e então eles reaparecem embrulhados debaixo da ‘árvore’. Liv embrulhou minha planta monstera gigante com luzes de Natal ontem. Pensei ter comprado papel de embrulho prateado, mas esta manhã descobri que está claro ao tentar embrulhar o pacote mais recente que chegou. Preciso me lembrar de pegar um pãozinho novo no caminho para casa.

A Witchy Brunch

Today was a crisp autumn day. After waiting for Liv to wake up (a whopping 3.5 hours later than me) we headed to brunch. Our first attempt was my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn but the wait was going to be 45 minutes and we were much too hungry for that so we went down the street to a place that has great food and usually a good DJ. It didn’t disappoint and we sat amid the cobwebs and other Halloween decorations. We are off to a Halloween party tonight, dressed as William Turner and Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. It will be fun to me makeup-less for the night (minus drawn on facial hair).

Hoje foi um dia fresco de outono. Depois de esperar Liv acordar (3,5 horas depois de mim), fomos para o brunch. Nossa primeira tentativa foi meu restaurante favorito no Brooklyn, mas a espera seria de 45 minutos e estávamos com muita fome para isso, então descemos a rua até um lugar que tem boa comida e geralmente um bom DJ. Não decepcionou e sentamos em meio às teias de aranha e outras decorações de Halloween. Vamos para uma festa de Halloween esta noite, vestidos como William Turner e Jack Sparrow de Piratas do Caribe. Vai ser divertido para mim sem maquiagem durante a noite (menos os pelos faciais desenhados).

Street Style Stroll

A Saturday stroll to the library! I woke up last weekend and decided I wanted to meander towards Park Slope, hit up the farmer’s market, and return an overdue library book. It’s about an hour and a half walk which never feels very long once I’m on my way. I’m always a little amazed at how open and kind all of the street style subjects are. Y’all make my day every time. I am a little awkward when other people take my photo so I am always flattered and excited when others allow me to photograph them. In these interactions we bridge a gap created by our busy lives, shyness, urban anonymity etc. and it always makes me feel more connected to the city.

Um passeio de sábado até a biblioteca! Acordei no fim de semana passado e decidi que queria caminhar até Park Slope, ir ao mercado do fazendeiro e devolver um livro da biblioteca atrasado. É cerca de uma hora e meia de caminhada, o que nunca parece muito longo quando estou a caminho. Sempre fico um pouco surpreso com o quão abertos e gentis são todos os assuntos de estilo de rua. Vocês fazem o meu dia sempre. Fico um pouco estranho quando outras pessoas tiram minhas fotos, então fico sempre lisonjeado e animado quando outras pessoas me permitem fotografá-las. Nessas interações preenchemos uma lacuna criada por nossas vidas ocupadas, timidez, anonimato urbano etc. e isso sempre me faz sentir mais conectado à cidade.

Street Style Stroll

On Saturday I met up with Thomas, who despite being one of my closest friends I haven’t seen for months. I brought my camera along and took these photos throughout the day. Thank you to everyone who so graciously let me take their photo. Y’all always make my day. Today is a bit rainy and gloomy and the backdrop of me getting ready this morning was the weekly honking war that happens every time it’s street sweeping day. People park in the middle of the road to avoid tickets rather than find a real parking spot in the meantime, and they inevitably block big trucks and then everyone just sits and honks at each other until someone finds a real solution. Every week. Daylight savings was yesterday and I’m so excited for summer-esque, later sunsets. This is the part of winter that tests my patience. It starts to feel like it should be warmer around April and I’ve learned that East Coast Winter holds on. It has been such a mild Winter that I can’t complain, but I’m ready for some days in the 60s at least.

No sábado encontrei-me com o Thomas, que apesar de ser um dos meus amigos mais próximos não o vejo há meses. Levei minha câmera e tirei essas fotos ao longo do dia. Obrigado a todos que gentilmente me deixaram tirar suas fotos. Vocês sempre fazem o meu dia. Hoje está um pouco chuvoso e sombrio e o pano de fundo da minha preparação esta manhã foi a guerra semanal de buzinas que acontece toda vez que é dia de varrer as ruas. As pessoas estacionam no meio da estrada para evitar multas, em vez de encontrar uma vaga de estacionamento real nesse meio tempo, e inevitavelmente bloqueiam caminhões grandes e então todos ficam sentados e buzinam uns para os outros até que alguém encontre uma solução real. Toda semana. O horário de verão foi ontem e estou muito animado para ver o pôr do sol mais tarde. Esta é a parte do inverno que testa minha paciência. Começa a parecer que deveria estar mais quente por volta de abril e aprendi que o inverno da Costa Leste continua. Tem sido um inverno tão ameno que não posso reclamar, mas estou pronto para alguns dias nos anos 60 pelo menos.

Welcome to a Street Style Stroll thru Crown Heights and Prospect Park. Liv had the day off on Monday and we attempted to have a productive coffee shop date but quickly discovered that the coffee shop was a rare one without internet. We had a quick lunch and then wandered toward Prospect Park. It was our first time back to the park since a beautiful 75 degree day in November, right before the seasons changed. I finally found the illusive Boathouse, where the last few photos were taken. Once again, I had a day where everyone said yes to having their photo taken. I am so grateful to all of you. Thank you for letting me take your photo. You are all so beautiful!

Bem-vindo a um passeio de estilo de rua por Crown Heights e Prospect Park. Liv teve o dia de folga na segunda-feira e tentamos ter um café produtivo, mas rapidamente descobrimos que o café era raro sem internet. Almoçamos rapidamente e depois caminhamos em direção ao Prospect Park. Foi a primeira vez que voltamos ao parque desde um lindo dia de 75 graus em novembro, pouco antes da mudança das estações. Finalmente encontrei o ilusório Boathouse, onde as últimas fotos foram tiradas. Mais uma vez, tive um dia em que todos disseram sim para tirar uma foto. Estou muito grato a todos vocês. Obrigado por me deixar tirar sua foto. Vocês são todos tão lindos!

Street Style Stroll | UES

For some reason I felt like I barely took anyone’s photo this day (Thursday of last week). Now that I see them all together I took quite a few! Thank you to all the lovely people who let me take their photo. You were all so sweet and stylish! I was in the Upper East Side to be the doorman for an opening night at a friend’s art gallery that she manages. They needed someone to let people in and out so they didn’t have to constantly buzz people up. I decided to snap some photos beforehand and I’m so glad I did! With all the rain the first half of this week I probably won’t get to stroll for a few days. Editing these makes me want to go straight out and do it again! My physical therapist suggested I check out Chelsea where a lot of the fashion schools reside, which is a great idea. That may be the next place I wander around with my camera. Have a lovely Monday!

Por alguma razão, senti que mal tirei foto de ninguém neste dia (quinta-feira da semana passada). Agora que os vejo todos juntos, tirei vários! Obrigado a todas as pessoas adoráveis que me deixaram tirar suas fotos. Vocês eram todos tão fofos e estilosos! Eu estava no Upper East Side para ser o porteiro de uma noite de abertura na galeria de arte de uma amiga que ela administra. Eles precisavam de alguém para deixar as pessoas entrarem e saírem para que não precisassem constantemente chamar as pessoas. Resolvi tirar algumas fotos antes e estou muito feliz por ter feito isso! Com toda a chuva da primeira metade desta semana, provavelmente não conseguirei passear por alguns dias. Editar isso me faz querer ir direto e fazer de novo! Meu fisioterapeuta sugeriu que eu desse uma olhada em Chelsea, onde residem muitas escolas de moda, o que é uma ótima ideia. Esse pode ser o próximo lugar que eu vago com minha câmera. Hello loves. Yesterday I strolled thru Bed Stuy and Crown Heights on my way to a friends’ place and took some street style photos on the way. Today is the West Indian Parade in Crown Heights so many vendors were hanging flags, putting out all their Jamaican and Trinidadian garb for sale, and everyone seemed to be in high spirits. The weather has been absolutely amazing. It’s the kind of weather where you can get away with wearing anything. Pants and shorts, bikini tops and long sleeves. We aren’t confined to wearing minimal clothes in the heat or seven layers for the cold, and you see the true NYC creativity shine. If folks are anything like me, we are reaching for the things we haven’t worn enough this summer, realizing their time to shine is limited, at least for this season. I’m hoping the warm weather holds on. These days in the 80s are a BLESSING. I took photos of an old friend and her very new baby bump. We shot four different looks so I have a lot of photos to sort through. I am very excited to show them to you sometime this week. Stay tuned. I hope you’ve all had a wonderful holiday weekend.

Olá amores. Ontem passei por Bed Stuy e Crown Heights a caminho de uma casa de amigos e tirei algumas fotos de estilo de rua no caminho. Hoje é o desfile das Índias Ocidentais em Crown Heights, tantos vendedores estavam pendurando bandeiras, colocando todos os seus trajes jamaicanos e trinitários à venda, e todos pareciam estar em alto astral. O clima tem sido absolutamente incrível. É o tipo de clima em que você pode se safar vestindo qualquer coisa. Calças e shorts, tops de biquíni e mangas compridas. Não nos limitamos a usar roupas mínimas no calor ou sete camadas para o frio, e você vê a verdadeira criatividade de Nova York brilhar. Se as pessoas são como eu, estamos buscando as coisas que não usamos o suficiente neste verão, percebendo que seu tempo para brilhar é limitado, pelo menos nesta temporada. Espero que o calor se mantenha. Esses dias são uma BÊNÇÃO. Tirei fotos de uma velha amiga e sua barriga muito nova. Filmamos quatro looks diferentes, então tenho muitas fotos para classificar. Estou muito animado para mostrá-los a você em algum momento desta semana. Fique ligado. Espero que todos tenham tido um excelente fim de semana de férias.

Wow y’all, round 2 was amazing! It occurred to me last time I did this that it may just be beginner’s luck that I had such a positive experience my first time taking street style photos. But damn, this time I didn’t get turned down even once. Everyone was so positive and sweet, and obviously stylish, even as they hastily made their way to the train. This time it was all shot in Brooklyn between Prospect Heights and Bushwick. On Friday a friend of mine who has a new airbnb property in Prospect Heights asked me to style the space and make it functional for people who had booked it for a few days starting Saturday. It was a big job considering I have one fully functioning arm and there wasn’t even toilet paper or bedding in the place. It took three trips from Marshall’s and Target and I finished at 11 PM. He asked me to make a copy of the keys so early yesterday I did that and then dropped off the old set back at the apartment. I had a coffee date with a friend in Bushwick a couple hours later and decided to wander with my camera in that direction. It was a little over four miles and I encountered all these beautiful people along the way.

Uau pessoal, a 2ª rodada foi incrível! Ocorreu-me da última vez que fiz isso que pode ser apenas sorte de principiante que eu tive uma experiência tão positiva na primeira vez que tirei fotos de estilo de rua. Mas caramba, desta vez eu não fui rejeitado nem uma vez. Todo mundo era tão positivo e doce, e obviamente estiloso, mesmo enquanto eles se apressavam para chegar ao trem. Desta vez foi tudo feito no Brooklyn entre Prospect Heights e Bushwick. Na sexta-feira, um amigo meu que tem uma nova propriedade do airbnb em Prospect Heights me pediu para estilizar o espaço e torná-lo funcional para pessoas que o reservaram por alguns dias a partir de sábado. Foi um grande trabalho, considerando que eu tenho um braço totalmente funcional e não havia papel higiênico ou roupa de cama no local. Foram três viagens da Marshall's e da Target e terminei às 23h. Ele me pediu para fazer uma cópia das chaves então cedo ontem fiz isso e depois deixei o conjunto antigo de volta no apartamento. Algumas horas depois, tomei um café com um amigo em Bushwick e decidi passear com minha câmera naquela direção. Foram pouco mais de seis quilômetros e encontrei todas essas pessoas bonitas pelo caminho.

The New Penn Station

Good morning! Yesterday I had to head to my school for the first time to get tested for Covid (for the millionth time) to prepare for Monday’s in-person classes. I am STOKED! I ran into a couple girls from my class outside the elevator on my way down and it made me so excited. I am not one for online learning, and although it’s been nice to roll out of bed and be able to cook myself meals, I am so looking forward to learning hands-on. I decided to check out the newly remodeled bits of Penn Station while I was uptown. I say bits because it was definitely not an overhaul. They did build a fancy train station across the way and a beautiful entrance, but the underground shops and old tile are all still there. I sat in the new train station for a while and sipped on some egg nog coffee I brought from home. When I saw that flock of pigeons on the steps with the stone columns behind them it reminded me so much of that scene in Mary Poppins where the old woman sings to the birds while she feeds them. Feed the birds, tuppence a bag … if you know, you know. I hope you all have an amazing weekend!

Bom Dia! Ontem eu tive que ir para minha escola pela primeira vez para fazer o teste da Covid (pela milionésima vez) para me preparar para as aulas presenciais de segunda-feira. ESTOU ATINGIDO! Encontrei algumas garotas da minha classe fora do elevador no meu caminho para baixo e isso me deixou muito animado. Não gosto de aprender online e, embora tenha sido bom sair da cama e ser capaz de preparar minhas refeições, estou ansioso para aprender coisas práticas. Decidi verificar os pedaços recém-reformados da Penn Station enquanto estava na parte alta da cidade. Digo bits porque definitivamente não foi uma revisão. Eles construíram uma estação de trem chique do outro lado do caminho e uma bela entrada, mas as lojas subterrâneas e os ladrilhos antigos ainda estão lá. Sentei-me na nova estação de trem por um tempo e tomei um gole de café com gemada que trouxe de casa. Quando vi aquele bando de pombos nos degraus com as colunas de pedra atrás deles, me lembrou muito daquela cena em Mary Poppins onde a velha canta para os pássaros enquanto os alimenta. Alimente os pássaros, dois pence um saco ... se você sabe, você sabe. Espero que todos tenham um fim de semana incrível!

The Many Sunsets of Quarantine

The skies have been beautiful the last few nights and I wish I could go up to the roof and soak them up in their entirety. The last week that I’ve been home has made me realize how much time I do spend out of the house normally, even with school seven hours a day and there being such limited things to do in the city because of COVID restrictions. It is rare that I don’t go for a walk, or to the gym, or to print out something for class, or meet up with a friend. I’ve always felt that I was a good mix of introverted and extroverted, but my slight lean towards the later is being felt strongly. I have three more days until I can emerge, and I will emerge with relief and excitement. It’s the last bit, but I have a feeling it will be the hardest part … though today’s class flew by. I would like to bust out the sewing machine tomorrow night, and organize the pantry shelf at some point this week. There are things to do ;) I finally installed my vanity mirror this weekend which adds a nice new dimension to my room and makes my nighttime skincare routine feel a bit more serene.

O céu tem estado lindo nas últimas noites e eu gostaria de poder subir no telhado e absorvê-lo por inteiro. A última semana que estive em casa me fez perceber quanto tempo eu gasto fora de casa normalmente, mesmo com a escola sete horas por dia e havendo coisas tão limitadas para fazer na cidade por causa das restrições do COVID. É raro que eu não saia para caminhar ou ir para a academia, ou para imprimir algo para a aula, ou encontrar um amigo. Sempre achei que era uma boa mistura de introvertido e extrovertido, mas minha ligeira inclinação para o último está sendo sentida fortemente. Tenho mais três dias até que possa emergir, e emergirei com alívio e excitação. É a última parte, mas tenho a sensação de que será a parte mais difícil ... embora a aula de hoje tenha voado. Eu gostaria de estourar a máquina de costura amanhã à noite e organizar a prateleira da despensa em algum momento desta semana. Há coisas a fazer;) Eu finalmente instalei meu espelho de maquilhagem neste fim de semana, o que adiciona uma nova dimensão agradável ao meu quarto e torna minha rotina noturna de cuidados com a pele um pouco mais serena.

Hey hey! This week has been very chill, starting with heading to a Wendy Williams Show taping in the city with my roommate Teara and her friend Jess. I have watched Wendy for years so I was very excited to see her and the watch the show in person. It did not disappoint! Wendy was gracious and funny and I got to shake her hand at the end, which was a highlight haha. My friends from back in California know how much I love her so they were very excited for me too. I’ve been back on my gym game this week after the doctor confirmed that there isn’t something skeletally wrong with my hip. Perhaps it’s just something muscular and will go away with time… It has felt so nice to be more active and a little sore as a result. I may try and go to a dance class tomorrow if work allows. Teara and I are headed to see “Like a Boss” at the movies tonight. :)

Ei ei! Esta semana foi muito descontraída, começando com uma participação na Wendy Williams Show na cidade com minha colega de quarto Teara e sua amiga Jess. Eu assisti a Wendy por anos, então fiquei muito animada em vê-la e assistir ao show pessoalmente. Não decepcionou! Wendy foi gentil e engraçada e eu consegui apertar sua mão no final, o que foi um destaque haha. Meus amigos da Califórnia sabem o quanto eu a amo, então eles ficaram muito animados por mim também. Voltei à academia esta semana depois que o médico confirmou que não há algo esqueleticamente errado no meu quadril. Talvez seja apenas algo musculoso e vá embora com o tempo ... Foi tão bom ser mais ativo e um pouco dolorido como resultado. Posso tentar ir a uma aula de dança amanhã, se o trabalho permitir. Teara e eu vamos ver "Like a Boss" no cinema hoje à noite. :)
