A Witchy Brunch

Today was a crisp autumn day. After waiting for Liv to wake up (a whopping 3.5 hours later than me) we headed to brunch. Our first attempt was my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn but the wait was going to be 45 minutes and we were much too hungry for that so we went down the street to a place that has great food and usually a good DJ. It didn’t disappoint and we sat amid the cobwebs and other Halloween decorations. We are off to a Halloween party tonight, dressed as William Turner and Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. It will be fun to me makeup-less for the night (minus drawn on facial hair).

Hoje foi um dia fresco de outono. Depois de esperar Liv acordar (3,5 horas depois de mim), fomos para o brunch. Nossa primeira tentativa foi meu restaurante favorito no Brooklyn, mas a espera seria de 45 minutos e estávamos com muita fome para isso, então descemos a rua até um lugar que tem boa comida e geralmente um bom DJ. Não decepcionou e sentamos em meio às teias de aranha e outras decorações de Halloween. Vamos para uma festa de Halloween esta noite, vestidos como William Turner e Jack Sparrow de Piratas do Caribe. Vai ser divertido para mim sem maquiagem durante a noite (menos os pelos faciais desenhados).

Street Style Stroll

Hi loves. On Saturday Liv and I brunched in East Williamsburg and Street Style Strolled to and from a restaurant named Ainslie. It had a gorgeous, lush back patio filled with large groups gathered for birthday brunches and the like. Pothos vines cascaded down from large copper pots on the ceiling and climbed up the exposed brick on the walls. Saturday afternoon is such a nice time of day to catch folks in their NYC finest. I took the last few photos on Sunday afternoon after a really delicious meal at a black owned restaurant named Sweet Science. It had a dj and amazing shrimp and grits. I had physical therapy this morning down the street from the little cafe I am currently in. PT has been more painful than usual unfortunately. I go back on Wednesday. I’m hoping icing my shoulder the next couple days will help whatever flare-up is occurring. Have a great day!

Oi amores. No sábado, Liv e eu tomamos um brunch em East Williamsburg e Street Style passeamos de e para um restaurante chamado Ainslie. Tinha um lindo e exuberante pátio nos fundos, cheio de grandes grupos reunidos para brunches de aniversário e coisas do gênero. Videiras Pothos caíam em cascata de grandes potes de cobre no teto e subiam pelos tijolos expostos nas paredes. A tarde de sábado é uma ótima hora do dia para ver as pessoas no seu melhor estilo de Nova York. Tirei as últimas fotos no domingo à tarde, depois de uma refeição realmente deliciosa em um restaurante de propriedade de negros chamado Sweet Science. Tinha um DJ e camarão e grãos incríveis. Fiz fisioterapia esta manhã na rua do pequeno café em que estou atualmente. O PT tem sido mais doloroso do que o normal, infelizmente. Volto na quarta-feira. Espero que colocar gelo em meu ombro nos próximos dias ajude qualquer surto que esteja ocorrendo. Tenha um ótimo dia!

Mini Street Style Stroll

Here are some photos of Saturday. Liv and I walked to get some food (mediocre Mexican food) and then ended up at a little wine bar. I snapped a couple photos along the way. We ended up at a hole-in-the-wall thrift shop on our walk home and each got a few t-shirts and as we made our way out Liv spotted a beautiful painting that fits with her green decor perfectly. It was a true come-up.

Yesterday I went to a queer contra-dancing event. It was so fun and inclusive. Everyone asked if you wanted to lead or follow without assuming. I had to take periodic breaks because all the spinning made me dizzy no matter how much I tried to focus on peoples heads instead of the whirring background. A large group of us headed to a little bar down the street afterwards. It was nice to get to talk more extensively with people I’d danced with. I wish more of my dance classes were like that in terms of outside interaction. All-in-all it was a good weekend. The weather has been warm but mild, which feels rare. My experience with NY so far has been that the weather doesn’t spend much time at luke warm so I am savoring this mild Spring.

Aqui ficam algumas fotos do sábado. Liv e eu caminhamos para pegar um pouco de comida (comida mexicana medíocre) e acabamos em um pequeno bar de vinhos. Tirei algumas fotos ao longo do caminho. Acabamos em um brechó minúsculo em nossa caminhada para casa e cada um comprou algumas camisetas e, quando saímos, Liv viu uma bela pintura que se encaixa perfeitamente com sua decoração verde. Foi uma verdadeira revelação.

Ontem fui a um evento queer de contra-dança. Foi tão divertido e inclusivo. Todos perguntaram se você queria liderar ou seguir sem assumir. Eu tinha que fazer pausas periódicas porque todo o giro me deixava tonto, não importa o quanto eu tentasse me concentrar nas cabeças das pessoas em vez do zumbido de fundo. Um grande grupo de nós foi para um pequeno bar na rua depois. Foi bom poder conversar mais extensivamente com pessoas com quem eu dancei. Eu gostaria que mais aulas de dança fossem assim em termos de interação externa. No geral foi um bom fim de semana. O clima está quente, mas ameno, o que parece raro. Minha experiência com NY até agora tem sido que o clima não fica muito tempo morno, então estou saboreando esta primavera amena.

Weekend

Here are some photos from the weekend! Liv’s cousins came to visit from Houston and we got to show them around the city for their first time here. After a long weekend of entertaining, Liv got sick and so I was taking care of her at home and then babysitting all afternoon. I realized yesterday I needed some self-care time so I pampered myself last night and took a nice long bath. Being somewhat split down the middle extrovert/introvert is an interesting balance. I tend to be a little more extroverted and I identify more with the social butterfly part of me, so it always surprises me a little when the craving for alone time hits. I tend to be a people pleaser and it’s hard for me to hear my own voice, my own wants often times - something I’m working on in therapy. I knew that getting to a coffee shop this morning to edit photos and send them off would complete my little self-care ritual. I’m grateful to have some tried and true methods to getting back to center.

Today, I am grateful to be in love, to be wearing shorts on a beautiful spring day in Brooklyn, to babysit some funny cute kids, for my health, my creative outlets, supportive community, being able to send my mom to Spain (where she is currently traveling), for being able to get ahold of my orthopedic surgeon after some misses, and a whole lot more.

Aqui ficam algumas fotos do fim de semana! Os primos de Liv vieram nos visitar de Houston e nós mostramos a eles a cidade pela primeira vez aqui. Depois de um longo fim de semana de entretenimento, Liv ficou doente e então eu estava cuidando dela em casa e depois como babá a tarde toda. Percebi ontem que precisava de um tempo de autocuidado, então me mimei ontem à noite e tomei um bom banho demorado. Ser um pouco dividido entre extrovertido/introvertido é um equilíbrio interessante. Tendo a ser um pouco mais extrovertida e me identifico mais com a parte social de borboleta em mim, então sempre me surpreendo um pouco quando bate o desejo de passar um tempo sozinha. Costumo agradar as pessoas e é difícil para mim ouvir minha própria voz, meus próprios desejos muitas vezes - algo em que estou trabalhando na terapia. Eu sabia que chegar a um café esta manhã para editar fotos e enviá-las completaria meu pequeno ritual de autocuidado. Sou grato por ter alguns métodos testados e comprovados para voltar ao centro.

Hoje, sou grata por estar apaixonada, por usar shorts em um lindo dia de primavera no Brooklyn, por cuidar de algumas crianças fofas e engraçadas, por minha saúde, minhas saídas criativas, comunidade de apoio, poder enviar minha mãe para a Espanha (onde ela está viajando no momento), por ter conseguido falar com meu ortopedista depois de algumas faltas, e muito mais.

Eu espero que você tenha um dia maravilhoso! Eu desejo isso para você!

Street Style Stroll

Hi hello! It has been a while since I did a little Street Style Stroll. Yesterday was gorgeous and I had some extra time on my hands so I decided to bring my camera along for some of my errands. Oi Olá! Já faz um tempinho que não faço um Street Style Stroll. Ontem foi lindo e eu tinha um tempinho sobrando, então decidi levar minha câmera para algumas das minhas tarefas. Hi friends. I have had a busy day and it’s only 12:47 pm! I had to be up at five am this morning and I probably won’t get home ‘til around 8 o’clock. I’ve already had one coffee and I’m strategically planning my next one. I hope you all had a nice weekend. On Saturday, Liv and I went up to Harlem to do some exploring. We ended up at a plant store and then at a delicious brunch. We snagged some macrame wall hangings and a couple plants to put inside them. I have been wanting a big air plant and I finally have one! Plus it is hanging on the wall opposite my window, where all my current plants are clustered. It’s nice to add some green to a new part of my room and make it all look a bit more cohesive. For brunch we split shrimp & grits and a side of Thai chili brussel sprouts from a place succinctly called Brunch Harlem. They had good music and a nice vibe. Sunday was much more low-key. We stayed in the neighborhood but made an outing out of getting breakfast and editing some of these photos at a coffee shop. Today is my busiest day, which is nice. I love getting the long day out of the way on a Monday. The rest of the week will feel like a breeze!

Oi amigos. Tive um dia agitado e são apenas 12h47! Tive que acordar às cinco da manhã e provavelmente só chegarei em casa por volta das 8 horas. Já tomei um café e estou planejando estrategicamente o próximo. Espero que todos tenham tido um bom fim de semana. No sábado, Liv e eu fomos ao Harlem para fazer algumas explorações. Acabamos em uma loja de plantas e depois em um delicioso brunch. Pegamos algumas tapeçarias de macramê e algumas plantas para colocar dentro delas. Eu queria uma grande planta de ar e finalmente tenho uma! Além disso, está pendurado na parede oposta à minha janela, onde todas as minhas plantas atuais estão agrupadas. É bom adicionar um pouco de verde a uma nova parte do meu quarto e fazer tudo parecer um pouco mais coeso. Para o brunch, dividimos camarão e grãos e um lado de couve de bruxelas de pimentão tailandês de um lugar sucintamente chamado Brunch Harlem. Eles tinham boa música e uma vibração agradável. Domingo foi muito mais discreto. Ficamos no bairro, mas fizemos um passeio tomando café da manhã e editando algumas dessas fotos em uma cafeteria. Hoje é o meu dia mais ocupado, o que é bom. Adoro tirar o longo dia de uma segunda-feira. O resto da semana vai parecer uma brisa!

Street Style Stroll

On Saturday I met up with Thomas, who despite being one of my closest friends I haven’t seen for months. I brought my camera along and took these photos throughout the day. Thank you to everyone who so graciously let me take their photo. Y’all always make my day. Today is a bit rainy and gloomy and the backdrop of me getting ready this morning was the weekly honking war that happens every time it’s street sweeping day. People park in the middle of the road to avoid tickets rather than find a real parking spot in the meantime, and they inevitably block big trucks and then everyone just sits and honks at each other until someone finds a real solution. Every week. Daylight savings was yesterday and I’m so excited for summer-esque, later sunsets. This is the part of winter that tests my patience. It starts to feel like it should be warmer around April and I’ve learned that East Coast Winter holds on. It has been such a mild Winter that I can’t complain, but I’m ready for some days in the 60s at least.

No sábado encontrei-me com o Thomas, que apesar de ser um dos meus amigos mais próximos não o vejo há meses. Levei minha câmera e tirei essas fotos ao longo do dia. Obrigado a todos que gentilmente me deixaram tirar suas fotos. Vocês sempre fazem o meu dia. Hoje está um pouco chuvoso e sombrio e o pano de fundo da minha preparação esta manhã foi a guerra semanal de buzinas que acontece toda vez que é dia de varrer as ruas. As pessoas estacionam no meio da estrada para evitar multas, em vez de encontrar uma vaga de estacionamento real nesse meio tempo, e inevitavelmente bloqueiam caminhões grandes e então todos ficam sentados e buzinam uns para os outros até que alguém encontre uma solução real. Toda semana. O horário de verão foi ontem e estou muito animado para ver o pôr do sol mais tarde. Esta é a parte do inverno que testa minha paciência. Começa a parecer que deveria estar mais quente por volta de abril e aprendi que o inverno da Costa Leste continua. Tem sido um inverno tão ameno que não posso reclamar, mas estou pronto para alguns dias nos anos 60 pelo menos.

I had a very early morning today so I’m going to head home shortly to chill before I meet Liv in the city for dinner tonight. I’ve been working on a ‘beginning of March’ vlog today, compiling footage from two weekends ago. These photos were taken this weekend. I find it fun to alternate how I capture my world. Sometimes it’s through photos, sometimes through long form videos, and sometimes just TikTok snippets will do. Today is sunny but super windy so I am procrastinating what will be a blustery walk home. I hope you are all having a lovely week.

Eu tive uma manhã muito cedo hoje, então vou para casa em breve para relaxar antes de encontrar Liv na cidade para jantar hoje à noite. Street Style Stroll | Brunch Edition

After a couple single digit temperature days, Sunday was beautiful and in the 50s. Liv and I decided to head to brunch and I brought my camera along. I hope you enjoy the nice mix of street style and brunch photos. We got fried pickles, deviled eggs, and crawfish mac and cheese. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it; they were all delicious! Afterwards, we headed to a ridiculously swanky bar around the corner called Lovejoys and sipped on some dirty martinis before heading home. It was a perfect Sunday, if I do say so myself. I will savor this cold-but-not-so-cold weather while it lasts!

Depois de alguns dias de temperatura de um dígito, o domingo estava lindo e nos anos 50. Liv e eu decidimos ir para o brunch e levei minha câmera. Espero que gostem da bela mistura de fotos de estilo de rua e brunch. Temos picles fritos, ovos cozidos e macarrão com queijo de lagosta. Estou ficando com fome só de pensar nisso; estavam todos deliciosos! Depois, fomos para um bar ridiculamente chique na esquina chamado Lovejoys e tomamos alguns martinis sujos antes de ir para casa. Foi um domingo perfeito, se assim posso dizer. Vou saborear este clima frio, mas não tão frio, enquanto durar!

Welcome to a Street Style Stroll thru Crown Heights and Prospect Park. Liv had the day off on Monday and we attempted to have a productive coffee shop date but quickly discovered that the coffee shop was a rare one without internet. We had a quick lunch and then wandered toward Prospect Park. It was our first time back to the park since a beautiful 75 degree day in November, right before the seasons changed. I finally found the illusive Boathouse, where the last few photos were taken. Once again, I had a day where everyone said yes to having their photo taken. I am so grateful to all of you. Bem-vindo a um passeio de estilo de rua por Crown Heights e Prospect Park. Liv teve o dia de folga na segunda-feira e tentamos ter um café produtivo, mas rapidamente descobrimos que o café era raro sem internet. Almoçamos rapidamente e depois caminhamos em direção ao Prospect Park. Foi a primeira vez que voltamos ao parque desde um lindo dia de 75 graus em novembro, pouco antes da mudança das estações. Hi babes! Comin’ at you with two back to back street style strolls. On Saturday I wandered around with Liv and captured one of my favorite groups of photos yet. With the seasons changing, so too does the styling. Growing up partially in Montana, dressing warmly was something I understood the mechanics of … but New Yorkers dress equally warmly and stylishly. It is truly inspiring as I start to feel bogged down by the many necessary layers. These folks remind me how fun it can be to dress for this season. Com a mudança das estações, o estilo também muda. Brooklyn Botanic Garden

I am coming to you from the sweetest little diner in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn - a neighborhood on the southeastern-most tip of Brooklyn. I haven’t been here before and it has a unique vibe. The Brooklyn accents I’m hearing are HEAVY & I love it. I’m here bright and early on a Wednesday (writing this early but posting it later because this cute diner doesn’t have wifi and I barely get cell reception). I had an 8 am appointment with an Orthopedic Surgeon, finally! They took X-rays to rule out a few things and when the doctor examined me, it took about five seconds for him to see that my right shoulder blade is “winged” and not laying correctly or moving symmetrically with the left side. He said something isn’t attached properly, there’s inflammation, and the whole shoulder seems sprained. He gave me a game plan, which includes continuing physical therapy, icing, and I’m coming back in two weeks for a steroid injection. I’m so relieved to finally have a plan of action! I felt like I was in good hands, finally. I will definitely be needing a nap today. Sofia invited me to go to a comedy show at Fotografiska last night. It’s a photography-focused museum in the city, and actually in the building that Anna Delvey/Anna Sorokin wanted to buy with investor money. It truly is a beautiful building. The night was hosted by Marie Faustin, a hilarious New Yorker that I found on TikTok a while back. Sofia stumbled on her instagram around the same time (she happens to live in our neighborhood) and she snagged these tickets when she saw Marie was hosting. I didn’t realize ‘til I got home around midnight that my appointment was so early today + it took me over an hour to get over here with two train transfers, so I got about five hours of sleep. But I’m feeling good, relieved that I probably won’t need surgery and that there is a middle-of-the road treatment that is likely to speed up what has been a very slow recovery.

Estou vindo da lanchonete mais doce de Bay Ridge, Brooklyn - um bairro na ponta mais ao sudeste do Brooklyn. Eu não estive aqui antes e tem uma vibração única. Os sotaques do Brooklyn que estou ouvindo são PESADOS e eu adoro. Estou aqui bem cedo em uma quarta-feira (escrevendo isso cedo, mas postando depois porque esse restaurante fofo não tem wifi e mal consigo recepção de celular). Eu tinha uma consulta às 8 da manhã com um Cirurgião Ortopédico, finalmente! Eles tiraram raios-X para descartar algumas coisas e quando o médico me examinou, levou cerca de cinco segundos para ele ver que meu ombro direito é “alado” e não está deitado corretamente ou se movendo simetricamente com o lado esquerdo. Ele disse que algo não está conectado corretamente, há inflamação e todo o ombro parece torcido. Ele me deu um plano de jogo, que inclui fisioterapia contínua, gelo, e estou voltando em duas semanas para uma injeção de esteróides. Estou tão aliviado por finalmente ter um plano de ação! Eu senti que estava em boas mãos, finalmente. Eu definitivamente estarei precisando de uma soneca hoje. Sofia me convidou para ir a um show de comédia no Fotografiska ontem à noite. É um museu focado em fotografia na cidade e, na verdade, no prédio que Anna Delvey/Anna Sorokin queria comprar com dinheiro de investidores. Realmente é um belo edifício. A noite foi apresentada por Marie Faustin, uma hilária nova-iorquina que encontrei no TikTok há algum tempo. Sofia tropeçou em seu instagram na mesma época (ela mora no nosso bairro) e pegou esses ingressos quando viu que Marie estava hospedando. Eu não percebi até chegar em casa por volta da meia-noite que meu compromisso era tão cedo hoje + levei mais de uma hora para chegar aqui com duas transferências de trem, então consegui cerca de cinco horas de sono. Mas estou me sentindo bem, aliviado que provavelmente não precisarei de cirurgia e que há um tratamento no meio do caminho que provavelmente acelerará o que tem sido uma recuperação muito lenta.

Street Style Stroll

Hello loves. Yesterday I strolled thru Bed Stuy and Crown Heights on my way to a friends’ place and took some street style photos on the way. Today is the West Indian Parade in Crown Heights so many vendors were hanging flags, putting out all their Jamaican and Trinidadian garb for sale, and everyone seemed to be in high spirits. The weather has been absolutely amazing. It’s the kind of weather where you can get away with wearing anything. Pants and shorts, bikini tops and long sleeves. We aren’t confined to wearing minimal clothes in the heat or seven layers for the cold, and you see the true NYC creativity shine. If folks are anything like me, we are reaching for the things we haven’t worn enough this summer, realizing their time to shine is limited, at least for this season. I’m hoping the warm weather holds on. These days in the 80s are a BLESSING. I took photos of an old friend and her very new baby bump. We shot four different looks so I have a lot of photos to sort through. I am very excited to show them to you sometime this week. Stay tuned. I hope you’ve all had a wonderful holiday weekend.

Olá amores. Ontem passei por Bed Stuy e Crown Heights a caminho de uma casa de amigos e tirei algumas fotos de estilo de rua no caminho. Hoje é o desfile das Índias Ocidentais em Crown Heights, tantos vendedores estavam pendurando bandeiras, colocando todos os seus trajes jamaicanos e trinitários à venda, e todos pareciam estar em alto astral. O clima tem sido absolutamente incrível. É o tipo de clima em que você pode se safar vestindo qualquer coisa. Calças e shorts, tops de biquíni e mangas compridas. Não nos limitamos a usar roupas mínimas no calor ou sete camadas para o frio, e você vê a verdadeira criatividade de Nova York brilhar. Se as pessoas são como eu, estamos buscando as coisas que não usamos o suficiente neste verão, percebendo que seu tempo para brilhar é limitado, pelo menos nesta temporada. Espero que o calor se mantenha. Esses dias são uma BÊNÇÃO. Tirei fotos de uma velha amiga e sua barriga muito nova. Filmamos quatro looks diferentes, então tenho muitas fotos para classificar. Week in Photos

This week has been absolutely incredible … so much dance and music. Last weekend I got to see Erykah Badu for the first time and on Wednesday Sofia and I got hooked up with free Kehlani tickets! I’ve been listening to Kehlani since she had a mixtape and was performing around Oakland. I decided to go solo to her concert in Santa Ana in 2017 at a small venue. It was my first time going to a show alone and I had such a good experience that I’ve done it plenty of times since. Watching her sell out Radio City Music Hall (which she sold out twice!) was kind of a proud moment! I was really honored to be there and was fan-girling over her and her choreographer/back-up dancer Kassidy Bright who I’ve also followed for a long time. On either side of the Kehlani show I went to the BAAND Together Dance Festival at Lincoln Center where five of the cities top dance companies performed pieces for FREE. I am so happy to be in NYC for amazing opportunities to see the highest level of art. This weekend is also looking like a lot of fun so I’ll probably film it for an upcoming vlog. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend ahead of you as well!

Esta semana foi absolutamente incrível... muita dança e música. No fim de semana passado eu pude ver Erykah Badu pela primeira vez e na quarta-feira Sofia e eu ganhamos ingressos grátis para Kehlani! Eu ouço Kehlani desde que ela fez uma mixtape e estava se apresentando em Oakland. Decidi ir sozinha ao show dela em Santa Ana em 2017 em um local pequeno. Foi a primeira vez que fui a um show sozinho e tive uma experiência tão boa que fiz isso muitas vezes desde então. Vê-la esgotar o Radio City Music Hall (que ela esgotou duas vezes!) foi um momento de orgulho! Fiquei muito honrada por estar lá e fui fangirl dela e de sua coreógrafa/dançarina Kassidy Bright, que também acompanho há muito tempo. Em ambos os lados do show de Kehlani, fui ao BAAND Together Dance Festival no Lincoln Center, onde cinco das principais companhias de dança da cidade apresentaram peças GRATUITAMENTE. Estou tão feliz por estar em Nova York para oportunidades incríveis de ver o mais alto nível de arte. Este fim de semana também está parecendo muito divertido, então provavelmente vou filmá-lo para um próximo vlog. Espero que todos tenham um fim de semana maravilhoso pela frente também!

Winter Sun

Oi amores. I braved the coffee shop in Williamsburg where you have to mentally elbow people out the way to get a table. I have to remember to come here early or not at all. I strongly dislike the competitive hawk-like hunting for a seat. I was lucky today but still had to sit on a chair in the corner for a bit. Luckily the girl next to me left so I could just slide over. I put my computer down on the table and returned the chair I’d borrowed and a girl was already trying to sit in my newfound seat. I had a pretty rough week mentally, not going to lie. Work was difficult and emotionally draining this week and then I had a pretty awkward social interaction right afterwards and I spent two days really over-analyzing my behavior and beating myself up - to the point where I was not sleeping well - waking up with a sick feeling in my stomach throughout the night. It’s awful when sleep isn’t even an escape from an over-active mind. I haven’t struggled like that with myself in a long time and it felt very out of nowhere and frustrating. I reached out to some friends and they very sweetly asked me to come over. I cried it out a bit with them and have felt a little relief since then. I feel like I need to take better care of myself, put nothing above my personal well-being because god knows I have very little time for anything else. I’m very happy to have gotten the Thanksgiving vlog up last night and am thinking about doing weekly “Vlogmas” videos the whole month of December. Being creative and going to dance classes really are my medicine. I would like to add a few more things to the list as well. I hope you had a wonderful holiday if you celebrated. Cheers!

Oi amores. Eu enfrentei o café em Williamsburg, onde você tem que mentalmente empurrar as pessoas para conseguir uma mesa. Tenho que me lembrar de vir aqui cedo ou não chegar. Não gosto da caça competitiva de um falcão por um assento. Tive sorte hoje, mas ainda tive que sentar um pouco em uma cadeira no canto. Felizmente, a garota ao meu lado saiu para que eu pudesse simplesmente deslizar. Coloquei meu computador sobre a mesa e devolvi a cadeira que peguei emprestada e uma garota já estava tentando se sentar na minha cadeira recém-encontrada. Eu tive uma semana muito difícil mentalmente, não vou mentir. O trabalho foi difícil e emocionalmente desgastante esta semana e então eu tive uma interação social muito estranha logo em seguida e passei dois dias realmente analisando meu comportamento e me culpando - a ponto de não dormir bem - acordar com uma doença sentindo no meu estômago durante a noite. É horrível quando o sono não é nem mesmo uma fuga de uma mente hiperativa. Eu não tenho lutado assim comigo mesmo há muito tempo e parecia muito do nada e frustrante. Estendi a mão para alguns amigos e eles muito docemente me pediram para vir. Chorei um pouco com eles e tenho sentido um pouco de alívio desde então. Sinto que preciso cuidar melhor de mim mesma, não colocar nada acima do meu bem-estar pessoal porque Deus sabe que tenho muito pouco tempo para mais nada. Estou muito feliz por ter conseguido o vlog do Dia de Ação de Graças ontem à noite e estou pensando em fazer vídeos semanais de “Vlogmas” durante todo o mês de dezembro. Ser criativo e ir às aulas de dança realmente são meu remédio. Também gostaria de acrescentar mais algumas coisas à lista. Espero que você tenha tido um feriado maravilhoso se você comemorou. Saúde!

Good morning amores. This has been quite the week and I can’t wait to update you on everything very soon. Lots of good things ahead! Right now that first Puerto Vallarta vlog has over 700 views, which I’m sure at some point won’t feel like a ton, but it feels like A LOT to me right now and it’s very exciting. Here are a few snapshots from the week. I went to an Afro-Haitian dance class last night and it was amazing. I’m hoping I’m not quite as sore as I was after last week’s Afro-Cuban class. I could barely sit up straight my back and arms were so sore. Last night’s class felt like a detox; towards the end I got a little light-headed. I’ve missed dance so much and it’s role in my overall health. There’s something so therapeutic about learning new movement, recognizing how it is supposed to feel from watching the teacher and star dancers in class, and making it your own in your own body. It connects me to myself, to the present moment, to art that lives simmering under my surface, to the magic in the universe … now I’m getting really wild haha. I can’t express my full gratitude for my relationship with dance. Like, how lucky was I to have two parents as dance teachers who exposed me to dances from all around the world?! Life is gorgeous. Bom dia amores. Esta tem sido uma semana emocionante e mal posso esperar para atualizá-los sobre tudo em breve. Muitas coisas boas pela frente! No momento, aquele primeiro vlog de Puerto Vallarta tem mais de 700 visualizações, o que tenho certeza que em algum momento não parecerá uma tonelada, mas parece MUITO para mim agora e é muito emocionante. Aqui estão alguns instantâneos da semana. Eu fui a uma aula de dança afro-haitiana ontem à noite e foi incrível. Espero não estar tão dolorido como fiquei depois da aula de afro-cubana da semana passada. Eu mal conseguia sentar minhas costas eretas e os braços estavam tão doloridos. A aula da noite passada pareceu uma desintoxicação; no final, fiquei um pouco tonto. Eu senti tanto a falta de dança e isso é importante para minha saúde geral. Há algo tão terapêutico em aprender um novo movimento, reconhecendo como deve ser a sensação de assistir o professor e os dançarinos famosos em sala de aula e torná-lo seu em seu próprio corpo. Isso me conecta a mim mesmo, ao momento presente, à arte que vive fervendo sob minha superfície, à magia do universo ... agora estou ficando realmente louco haha. Não posso expressar minha total gratidão por minha relação com a dança. Tipo, que sorte eu tive de ter dois pais como professores de dança que me expuseram a danças de todo o mundo ?! A vida é linda. Weekend Recap

Good evening :) This was such a nice weekend. I went to the beach with my roommates on Saturday and on the way home I ran into my friend Marissa from Long Beach about a block from my apartment. It was the craziest, fated thing. I didn’t know she was in town and she didn’t know I lived here. I haven’t seen her since we worked together in 2018 but we had a ritual of getting wine together after work and she is one of my favorite people in SoCal. She’s a pro skateboarder with her own line of women’s skate pants and is such good energy. We’ve talked a bit since then but it never worked out to see her when I’ve visited LA since then. Luckily her and her boyfriend weren’t flying out til Sunday evening (tonight) so we made plans to spend the afternoon together today, which happened to be Pride. I had such a nice day with them and feel so amazed at the universe for the very blatant opportunity to reconnect. How perfect, right?! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend as well. <3

Boa noite :) Este foi um fim de semana tão bom. Fui à praia com minhas colegas de quarto no sábado e, no caminho para casa, encontrei minha amiga Marissa, de Long Beach, a cerca de um quarteirão do meu apartamento. Foi a coisa mais louca e predestinada. Eu não sabia que ela estava na cidade e ela não sabia que eu morava aqui. Não a vejo desde que trabalhamos juntos em 2018, mas tínhamos um ritual de juntar vinho depois do trabalho e ela é uma das minhas pessoas favoritas em SoCal. Ela está. uma skatista profissional com sua própria linha de calças femininas de skate e tem uma energia tão boa. Conversamos um pouco desde então, mas nunca deu certo vê-la quando visitei Los Angeles desde então. Felizmente, ela e o namorado não iriam voar até a noite de domingo (hoje à noite), então fizemos planos para passar a tarde juntos hoje, que por acaso foi Orgulho. Eu tive um dia tão bom com eles e me sinto tão maravilhado com o universo pela oportunidade tão flagrante de me reconectar. Que perfeito, certo ?! Espero que todos tenham tido um fim de semana maravilhoso também.

I am posted up at a coffee shop down the street from my place, studying for next week’s written state board exam. The more I study the more I feel like this is so much information. From sanitation and chemistry to facial techniques and license renewing procedures, it’s a lot. My friend Kaylie took the test about three weeks ago and said she took a full two hours to complete it … so I’m expecting a difficult test. I was lucky to have her to tell me to study certain handouts that we were given during school that I didn’t think were important but apparently were pulled from heavily for the test. At this point I’m just excited to wrap up these credentials and be fully licensed here in NY. I would like to take the month of June to enjoy the city and not just its many coffee shops haha, though I’ve found a few new ones this week that I’ve loved. I have slowly been editing my California vlog when I need a study break and I’m about 1/3 of the way through now. Happy to report that Premiere Pro is starting to feel easy to use, now that I’ve gotten the basics down, which means I’m looking forward to editing rather than dreading it. I started reading The 5 AM Club this week and am very curious about the secrets it will reveal. My 5 AM winter routine was inspired by a conversation I had with my friend Olivia about the book so I feel like reading the real thing will solidify it for me. The feeling is somewhat addicting - waking up that early and starting the day without feeling like I am catching up with everyone who is already out and about. I also bought a new planner this week. Writing down a checklist is so helpful for my productivity, so I’m getting back to the things that work for me. I hope you’re having a lovely week!

Estou postado em um café na rua de minha casa, estudando para o exame escrito do conselho estadual da próxima semana. Quanto mais estudo, mais sinto que isso é muita informação. De saneamento e química a técnicas faciais e procedimentos de renovação de licença, é muito. Minha amiga Kaylie fez o teste há cerca de três semanas e disse que levou duas horas inteiras para concluí-lo ... então, estou esperando um teste difícil. Tive a sorte de tê-la me dizendo para estudar certas apostilas que recebemos durante a escola que eu não achei importantes, mas aparentemente foram retiradas pesadamente para o teste. Neste ponto, estou muito animado para encerrar essas credenciais e ser totalmente licenciado aqui em NY. Eu gostaria de aproveitar o mês de junho para aproveitar a cidade e não apenas seus muitos cafés haha, embora eu tenha encontrado alguns novos esta semana que adorei. Eu tenho editado lentamente meu vlog da Califórnia quando preciso de uma pausa para estudar e estou com cerca de 1/3 do caminho agora. Fico feliz em informar que o Premiere Pro está começando a parecer fácil de usar, agora que aprendi o básico, o que significa que estou ansioso para editar, em vez de temer. Comecei a ler The 5 AM Club esta semana e estou muito curioso sobre os segredos que ele vai revelar. Minha rotina de inverno das 5 da manhã foi inspirada por uma conversa que tive com minha amiga Olivia sobre o livro, então sinto que ler a verdadeira vai solidificá-lo para mim. A sensação é um tanto viciante - acordar tão cedo e começar o dia sem sentir que estou alcançando todo mundo que já está fora de casa. Eu também comprei um novo planejador esta semana. Escrever uma lista de verificação é muito útil para minha produtividade, então estou voltando às coisas que funcionam para mim. Espero que você esteja tendo uma ótima semana!

The Edge

Hi boos! Yesterday some friends and I went to The Edge in Hudson Yards. It’s a fairly new attraction … a glass ledge on the 100th floor that offers an insane view of the city. You are right across from the Empire State Building … which is also known for it’s view, but it’s such a NY staple that it’s fun to get to see it and not be pressed right up against it. We went just before sunset so we got to see the cityscape both in the daytime and after the sun had set, when the city becomes a golden glow of lights. It’s striking how big and small the island of Manhattan feels all at once. It’s hard to comprehend how many people live in each building, but you can also see the parameters of the city and it all feels so accessible. We had a great time taking pictures and watching all the girls in their warm weather outfits while the wind made us all shiver. The last couple days have been back to cold! But it’s supposed to warm up tomorrow and remain that way for the rest of the week, minus some rain on Sunday. I am wearing all my fall items diligently. I am currently working on a vlog from my tropical travels a couple weeks ago, so stay tuned for that. It should be a nice change of scene. I definitely had fun filming it, not having to talk over my obnoxious radiator for once haha. I hope you are all well!

Oi amores! Ontem, alguns amigos e eu fomos ao The Edge em Hudson Yards. É uma atração relativamente nova ... uma borda de vidro no 100º andar que oferece uma vista insana da cidade. Você está bem em frente ao Empire State Building ... que também é conhecido por sua vista, mas é tão importante em NY que é divertido vê-lo e não ser pressionado contra ele. Fomos um pouco antes do pôr do sol, então pudemos ver a paisagem urbana durante o dia e depois que o sol se pôs, quando a cidade se torna um brilho dourado de luzes. É impressionante como a ilha de Manhattan parece grande e pequena ao mesmo tempo. É difícil compreender quantas pessoas vivem em cada prédio, mas você também pode ver os parâmetros da cidade e tudo parece tão acessível. Nós nos divertimos muito tirando fotos e vendo todas as garotas em seus trajes de clima quente enquanto o vento nos fazia tremer. Os últimos dias voltaram a esfriar! Mas deve esquentar amanhã e permanecer assim pelo resto da semana, sem chuva no domingo. Estou vestindo todos os meus itens de outono com diligência. No momento, estou trabalhando em um vlog de minhas viagens tropicais há algumas semanas, portanto, fique atento para isso. Deve ser uma boa mudança de cenário. Eu definitivamente me diverti filmando, não tendo que falar no meu irritante radiador pela primeira vez haha. Espero que todos estejam bem!
